Early for the class I know I'll drop
But I'm absolutely sure
when the professor draws
a square around my name on the roll
and agrees with me

Late for the next class
boldly interrupting because I
sincerely want to be there
and I end up walking into the wrong classroom
but I enter the right room
just in time for introductions

Afterwards, the teacher thanks me
for asking people questions,
conversing, and making
the mood less awkward and more
pleasant

A past teacher, whom I punch
on the shoulder in greeting,
likes my hat

The snow taps out a rather scatty beat
as it drips from the roof
toward its resurrected form

My singing voice is bold and pure
strong against the traffic
it is only so when I'm sure no one is listening
to me in particular

A quiet classroom
a silent language
we all jump when we hear
cats fighting, yowling
just outside
the old, thin windows
that will be demolished later this semester

I fill the classroom with my
solitary laughter
.
